I admit, my blogging schedule leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t forget to write, it’s just that with so much crap going on and getting ready for winter and all that entails it’s hard to find the time to write.
I have been doing a lot of research lately, trying to find the best breed of animals to bring in on the farm. Dee and I both agree that we need something small, since with only 30 acres, we don’t have a lot of room for cows, or more of the bigger animals.
I know I still want goats, but trying to find some around this area that I feel that I can’t live without is pretty hard for me. And with not a ton of time to spend online, I’m always late to the party when there is something I like.
Rabbits are another thing. I already have a few, and most of them are mixed breed mutts, or not the kind you have for showing, but just pets and meat. Which is fine, but I want something that is dual purpose, so I am thinking of a heritage breed, but narrowing it down when they are all so cute…well, it’s not easy.
We are going to the Mother Earth News Fair in Topeka at the end of October. They have so many things going on, we have to buy tickets for both days! I am super excited about this, because they have speakers for the beginning legalities of farming, for animal husbandry, for just about anything I could think of. If you are in the area, you should really check it out. It’s totally worth the $30 to go. Check it out here.
I have to really sit down and figure out a schedule for everything, then type it all up and put it somewhere we can see it…..Yeah, now about that…..
